FAITH

An empty space, eternal in size, abides in us.
Integral to being; our hearts crave its filling.
Ambitious, we seek spackle, divine and pure,
It putties the gap, devotion instilling.

Terrified by faith, we build walls.
Old, thick stones, cool and dark,
Tempting us to believe in obscurity.
Our understanding is framed in murk.

Guilt stirs our shadows, pushing us;
Vexed, we question manmade borders.
Graving windows into religious bulwarks;
Verity lights our soul’s hidden corners.

Terrified by truth, we control it.
Passing it through colored panes.
Turning it into other shapes and hues;
Plainly distorted, but satisfying stains.

Walls will crumble, stained glass
Shatters and breaks.
We stand in shards, feet bloody,
Seeing truth, love and grace.

Come with me, the lot of you!
Each may stand in this sanguineous place.
Charity, faith, hope and love have room for all,
Enveloped in each other, we fill eternal space.
